Safety on Roblox is at the core of everything we do. This starts with our robust set of Community Standards that outline how we expect our users to behave and what is and isn’t allowed on Roblox.

Our Safety team uses these Standards to moderate content and respond to abuse reports from users. If any users are found to be violating these Standards, they may be suspended or removed from the platform. Roblox also works proactively with authorities to report cases of violent threats, child endangerment, or other serious real world harm. We update our Community Standards periodically as the needs of our community change.

Our safety and monitoring system is integrated into Roblox to promote civility and safety. These systems are designed to enforce our policies, protect users’ personal information, and abide by local laws. We leverage human moderators and automated systems to identify content and behavior that may violate our policies.

We have a team of thousands of trained professionals dedicated to protecting our users and monitoring 24/7 for inappropriate content. Our Safety team strives to take swift action to address any content or behavior that violates our Terms of Use or Community Standards.

Content submitted by creators automatically goes through a multi-step review process before appearing on the platform, using a combination of review by a large team of human moderators and machine detection.

We scan experiences at multiple stages: at the time of publishing and again when they are updated on Roblox. Experiences are evaluated by a suite of tools that help identify problematic content that may violate our Standards. A human review team continuously operates to evaluate experiences flagged for further review.

We filter text chat on the platform to block detected inappropriate content, such as discriminatory speech, bullying, extremism, violence, sexual content, etc., as well as personal information and offsite links. We update our filters continuously and filter text in multiple languages. We apply stricter filtering policies to users 12 years old and younger. Learn more about our safety tools and controls.

On Roblox, users can report inappropriate content or behavior using our Report Abuse system located throughout Roblox including within experiences. Roblox also provides users with a direct channel to our Customer Support team to report concerns or other issues. Learn more about our user report functionalities.

When a user submits a report about a violation of our Community Standards, our Safety team assesses reports and strives to take appropriate action as quickly as possible.

We take our commitment to safety very seriously. Depending on the severity and impact of a content-based Community Standard violation, we take action ranging from warnings, content removal, or Roblox account- or feature-level restrictions. We also take steps to prevent previously rejected content from being copied. In circumstances that present an imminent risk of harm, users may be reported to the relevant authorities.

In addition to considering the specific violation, we also take into account a user's historical behavior on the platform and whether they have repeatedly violated our policies. Repeated violations of our policies may increase the severity of consequences.

Whenever we make a decision to restrict access to content on the platform, we notify the impacted user of our decision and provide them with an opportunity to appeal. Learn more about our appeals process.

Roblox is a recipient of the “kidSAFE+COPPA” seal, which is an FTC-approved COPPA certification program that was modeled after the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule, a U.S. federal privacy law commonly referred to as “COPPA” or the “COPPA Rule”. As part of this certification program, Roblox is required to adhere to the program guidelines developed by kidSAFE’s Safe Harbor program to demonstrate its commitment to COPPA compliance. kidSAFE audits Roblox on an annual basis for adherence to both COPPA and kidSAFE’s own requirements for online child safety. For more information kidSAFE’s requirements and application to the Commission, please see their approved guidelines.

In addition to providing an audit and a safe harbor for COPPA, kidSAFE serves as an ombudsman where parents and others may file complaints about their experiences with Roblox. These complaints are shared with us and require in some cases immediate action.
